Stefan Heidemann (orientalist)
Stefan Heidemann (born April 3, 1961 in Versmold ) is a German orientalist . He teaches at the University of Hamburg .
Life
Heidemann studied from 1982 at the University of Regensburg , Free University of Berlin , University of Damascus and University of Cairo ; In 1993 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD .
He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Jena , where he completed his habilitation in 2001 . From 2001 to 2003 he was a professor at the University of Leipzig .
From 2009 to 2011 Heidemann was Professor at the Bard Graduate Center of Bard College and from 2010 to 2011 at the same time Associate Curator in the Islamic Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City . Since 2011 he has held a full professorship for Islamic Studies in Hamburg.
Prizes and awards
- 2005 Samir Shamma Prize from the Royal Numismatic Society , London.
- 2007–2008 Fellowship of the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at the School of Architecture and Planning of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology .
- 2015 Full member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature , Mainz.
