Stefan Knafl

Stefan Knafl (born December 27, 1927 in St. Michael am Zollfeld , municipality of Maria Saal , Carinthia ; † June 2, 2005 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

After attending elementary school and secondary school in Klagenfurt , Knafl entered the teacher training institute in Klagenfurt in 1941. In 1944 he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service , and subsequently to the German Wehrmacht . On April 20, 1944 he became a party member of the NSDAP (No. 9.697.765), whereby the historian Michael Wladika concludes that he had previously been a member of the HJ . After activities in the Austrian youth movement, he worked for a long time in the Carinthian state politics as a municipality and city council in St. Veit an der Glan and a member of the Carinthian state parliament. From 1973 he was a member of the Carinthian provincial government and from 1979 deputy governor. Later he took over the chairmanship of the Austrian Seniors' Union . Despite serious illness, he stood up for the elderly until his death.
