Stefan Mau (* 1961 ) is a former German American football player and current coach.

career

Mau played as a quarterback in the first and second Bundesliga for the Hamburg Dolphins and the Hamburg Silver Eagles , in 1987 he ran for the German national team and was second in the European championship with this.

Mau worked as an assistant coach for the Norderstedt Nordic Wolves, in 2004 he returned to the field in the major league and was part of the same Norderstedt team as his son Marlon . Stefan Mau was later a member of the coaching staff of the first division club Hamburg Blue Devils , before moving to the Kiel Baltic Hurricans in 2010 . In the 2010 season he contributed as an assistant coach (he looked after the quarterbacks) to the German championship title of Kiel. His sons Marlon and Benjamin were also part of the Kiel team . In the 2011 season, Mau was initially attack coordinator for the first division club Hamburg Huskies , and from September 2011 until the end of the season he was back on the Kiel staff of head coach Patrick Esume .

From the 2012 season, Mau was the head coach of Elmshorn Fighting Pirates in the regional league. He led the team to promotion to the second division, but in July 2014 Elmshorn was bottom of the table in the second division, so Mau had to leave.

After his tenure in Elmshorn, Mau strengthened the coaching staff of the second division Lübeck Cougars in the 2017 season, initially as responsible for the quarterbacks, then as attack coordinator , and also worked as an assistant coach for the French national team. With the French selection, he won gold at the World Games in Wroclaw in July 2017 , in the final, France beat the German team with Mouse's son Benjamin. In 2018, Mau the Elder also became European champion with France as a member of the coaching staff.

For the 2018 season, Mau returned to the Elmshorn Fighting Pirates and took over the positions of quarterback and wide receiver as assistant coach for the Holsteiners, who are now back in the second division . In this position he contributed to Elmshorn's first promotion to the top German division, the GFL . This success came in 2019.

For the 2020 season, the full-time owner of a trading agency , Mau switched to the coaching staff of the Hamburg Pioneers and took over the coordination of the attacking game.
