Patrick “Coach” Esume (born February 3, 1974 in Hamburg ) is a German American football coach, former player and presenter.

Private

Esume is the son of a student who immigrated from Nigeria in the 1960s and a native of Hamburg. He is the oldest of three siblings. He was born in the Elim Hospital in the Hamburg district of Eimsbüttel and grew up near the Altona fish market . According to his autobiography , Esume always felt German, despite his father's African roots. He grew up bilingual and learned both German and English in his childhood , which was of benefit to him in his later professional career. After primary school he attended the Wilhelm Gymnasium on Klosterstieg . He graduated from high school , moved into his first apartment at the age of 18 and began training as a curative teacher .

Sport played a formative role even in his childhood. Esume played football at Union 03 Altona for years before moving to American football in 1992. Esume has been a father since 2012. He and his wife Anna have since had two daughters. With the brand "Coach Esume" he founded his own fashion label.

Career

Player career

Esume began his playing career in 1992 as safety and cornerback with the Hamburg Silver Eagles . In 1995 he moved to the Hamburg Blue Devils , with whom he entered the German Bowl three times and won it in 1996. They won the Eurobowl three times (1996-1998). In 1999 he moved to the Hamburg Wild Huskies , and in 2000 he returned to the Blue Devils for his final season.

Coaching career

He gained his first coaching experience in 1999 with the Hamburg Wild Huskies. In 2002 he went to Frankfurt Galaxy , with whom he won the World Bowl in 2003 . In 2005 he moved to the Hamburg Sea Devils , where he worked as a running back and special teams trainer. In 2006 he received an NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Oakland Raiders , which secured him a position as a position coach during the training camp. In 2007 he won the World Bowl with the Sea Devils. In the same year he received another fellowship, this time with the Cleveland Browns . After a successful season in 2009 as head coach at La Courneuve Flash , with which he became French champion, he became head coach of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes . With them he won the German Bowl in 2010 and the European Football League in 2014 . Despite this success, the Hurricanes separated from Esume on October 7, 2014. On December 5, 2014, he was appointed head coach of the French American football team. In November 2015 he became the assistant coach of the designated head coach Denauld Brown at the Hamburg Huskies and in March 2016, after the failure of the engagement of Brown, he largely took over his duties until he left the club in November 2016.

Among other things, he trained the WBA world champion Ruslan Chagayev and the Swedish boxing world champion Maria Lindberg as an athletics trainer . In 2017 he was able to triumph as head coach of the French American football team at the World Games . In the final, his team beat Germany 14: 6. In 2018 he led France to the title with a 28-14 victory in the final of the American Football European Championship in Finland. In June 2019, Esume resigned from his position as French national coach.

The Elmshorn Fighting Pirates signed Esume as a defense trainer from 2020.

At the end of February 2020, Esume began an internship with the second division soccer club Hamburger SV under the head coach Dieter Hecking . The contact came through the sports director Jonas Boldt , who had met Esume while working at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . The collaboration ran until the end of the 2019/20 season .

Career as a moderator

Since 2015 he has been working as an expert and commentator for ran Football and since September 2018 as a moderator for the action experiment Hart. Harder. Hell camp.
