Stefan Ploc (born March 23, 1914 in Vienna ; † November 24, 2003 ) was an Austrian football goalkeeper who won four championship titles with First Vienna FC and SC Wacker Vienna in the 1940s and was used in the national team .
Club career
Ploc began his career in the offspring of SK Admira Wien , from where he came to SPC Helfort Wien via a short stopover at SK Rapid Wien in 1933 . With the Ottakringers he played in the VAFÖ league and finished second in the 1933/34 season. In January 1934 Ploc moved to the first division club Wiener AC , where he made his debut in the top division and immediately had a regular place.
After just one year with the athletes, the next club change followed when Karl Geyer brought the goalkeeper to SC Wacker, where he succeeded Karl Cart . With the Meidlingers he was able to assert himself in the top half of the table in the next two years, but in autumn 1936 he was excluded from the ÖFB for life because he was charged with accepting bribes. Whether Ploc was actually active as a handball goalie in the following years - as announced in the newspapers when he was banned - could not be proven.
After his suspension was lifted in 1939, he joined the Vienna, where he played again in the championship. During the war, Vienna had one of the strongest teams in Vienna and Ploc had a defense in front of them that consisted exclusively of national players such as Otto Kaller , Willibald Schmaus or Karl Bortoli . The Döblinger team won the championship title three times in a row from 1942 to 1944, and Ploc was also in the team that lost 2-0 to FC Schalke 04 in the final of the German championship in 1942 . When he was successful in the Tschammer Cup in 1943 , however, he was not in the Viennator.
After the end of the war, Ploc initially continued to work for Vienna, but switched back to SC Wacker during the 1945/46 season. The following season Ploc began as a regular goalie, but was replaced after a few rounds by Franz Pelikan . He left the Meidlingers, who were to win the only championship title in their club's history that year and initially played for the second division SK Slovan Wien , before he returned to Vienna in 1948, where he was only a substitute for Bruno Engelmeier and was accordingly used sporadically . In 1952 he finally moved to FC Vienna , where he played championship games until 1955.
National team
During the war years, Ploc played several times in the Ostmark team and in the Vienna city team. In early 1942 he was part of the German national team for the two international matches against Croatia and Switzerland , but was not used on both occasions.
When the Austrian national team played their first international match in almost eight years in Budapest in August 1945, Stefan Ploc was in goal with a 2-0 defeat. Another game took place the next day, this time the Hungarians lost 2-5. Although the goalkeeper is said to have been the best man in the Austrians according to newspaper reports, this was his last appearance in the selection, only one game in the Vienna city team was to follow in 1946.
