Stefan Römer (born March 11, 1960 in Katzenelnbogen ) is a German artist and author .

biography

From 1986 to 1991 Stefan Römer studied art history, ethnology and comparative religious studies in Bonn, Cologne and Berlin, and has worked as a freelance artist and journalist since 1991. Stefan Römer writes for Kunstforum , texts on art , Spex , Frieze , taz , Camera Austria , Springerin and Konkret on topics such as art or cultural theory; Previous priorities were, for example, artistic strategies of the fake and the criticism of original and forgery, ways of presenting contemporary art, the new values ​​of the private public and new consumption as a capitalist end in itself, or self-organization at art universities. He was editor of the fanzine "Nervenpolaroid" in the 1980s and co-editor of the Munich artist magazine terrain vague (2003 to 2009). In 1994 he founded the fresh makers group .

In 1998 he received his doctorate from the Humboldt University in Berlin with The Concept of Fake (reviewer: Horst Bredekamp ). From November 1999 to 2002 he worked at the Art Academy for Media Cologne with the research project: Computer science, art theory and artistic practice of digital image media . From 2003 to 2009 he was Professor of New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , guest lecturer since 2007 at the Institute for Cultural Studies at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and since 2010 at the University of the Arts Berlin in the field of verbal communication .

In 2000 he was awarded the Prize for Art Criticism of the Working Group of German Art Associations.
