Stefan Schäfer (composer)

Stefan Schäfer (born September 4, 1963 in Ulm ) is a German composer and double bass player .

Life

Stefan Schäfer grew up in Heidelberg . He studied at the Hamburg University of Music , first in school music with a major in piano, later in double bass with Hans-Dieter Eschmann with university degrees - diploma, diploma music teacher and concert exam with distinction. He then studied with Klaus Stoll and Ovidiu Bădilă . In 1992 he was 1st prize winner of the Elise Meyer Competition in Hamburg. In the same year he became a double bass player in the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg . In 2000 he switched to the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra as solo bassist, and has held the same position with the Hamburg Philharmonic since 2003 . He composed works for double bass and received awards in England and the United States. In addition to other composition commissions, he wrote “ Kaispeicher A ” for large orchestra in 2004 for the Hamburg Philharmonic . He also composed chamber music, songs, theater and radio plays. Since 1995 he has been a lecturer for double bass at the Hamburg Conservatory , gives courses at home and abroad and is chairman of the Chamber Music Association . V .
