Stefan Schlegel

Stefan Schlegel (born August 16, 1968 in Sevelen ) is a Swiss jazz trombonist (also known as valve trombone ).

Live and act

Stefan Schlegel first played the piano , trumpet and French horn until he found the trombone relatively late at the age of 14. After several years of apprenticeship in regional jazz bands and big bands , he first studied classical trombone (teaching and orchestral diploma) at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHDK). This was followed by studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston , with Phil Wilson . Stefan Schlegel finished his studies with Jiggs Whigham at the Staatliche Musikhochschule Köln with a concert diploma for jazz trombone.

During the academic years up to the end of the 1990s, Stefan Schlegel not only played in the Swiss jazz scene, but also in symphony orchestras such as the Winterthur Music College, the St. Gallen Theater Orchestra or as a deputy at the Zurich Opera House. Since 1998 he has concentrated exclusively on his activities as a jazz trombonist and arranger.

Stefan Schlegel played with numerous big bands in Europe, was director of the Zurich Jazz Orchestra for four years and has played in the Swiss Jazz Orchestra since 2008 .
