Stefan Schmitzer (* 1979 in Graz ) is an Austrian writer .

Life

Stefan Schmitzer was born in Graz in 1979. From 1999 to 2006 he studied art history, philosophy and German in Graz and Vienna. From 2005 to 2009 he was literary advisor at the Forum Stadtpark Graz. Since 2010 he has been a board member of IG Kultur Steiermark.

In 2007 his debut volume of poetry, moonlight on clichy , was published, in which Schmitzer's literary credo of “naming political contexts poetically” is already clearly recognizable. His poetry is shaped by elements of popular culture (song lyrics, quotes, references) and influenced by the authors of the Beat Generation and German-speaking pop writers of the 1960s and 70s, such as Peter Rühmkorf , Rolf Dieter Brinkmann , Peter-Paul Zahl and Reto Hänny .

In 2011, Schmitzer's second volume of poems, shitty social peace, was published and the poetological dispute about poetry that was conducted together with Helwig Brunner was made | poem | found .

Schmitzer also writes prose . In 2007 his volume of short stories was published, vier Schuss , in 2009 his experimental novel where the disappeared, which is not about anyway . In November 2013 he made his debut as a playwright with the play #franzfranz .

Together with the bassist Michi Merkusch and the classically trained avant-garde musician and composer Denovaire, Schmitzer (text and voice) forms the experimental music formation "fun + stahlbad".
