Stefan Stuligrosz (born August 26, 1920 in Posen ; † June 15, 2012 in Puszczykowo near Posen) was a Polish choir conductor, composer and founder of the Poznańskie Słowiki (Poznańskie Słowiki) boys' choir .

Life

From 1931 to 1937 Stefan Stuligrosz attended the St. Maria Magdalena grammar school in Poznan . He then began commercial training until the outbreak of war in 1939. During the war he stayed in Poznan, which was occupied by Germany, and from August 1941 he secretly led the Polish Cathedral Boys Choir, which was previously headed by Father Wacław Gieburowski, who was arrested in 1939 and died in 1943 .

In 1945 he founded the boys and men choir "Poznan Nightingales" and became its conductor and artistic director. From 1950 the choir worked regularly with the Poznan Philharmonic .

Already active as a conductor, he studied musicology at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan until 1951 and attended the State University of Music for two more years . In 1973 he was appointed professor , dean of the singing faculty and from 1967 to 1981 rector of the Poznan Music Academy .

In addition, from 1953 to 1963 he was head of the music department of the Poznan radio station, from 1973 to 1982 president of the art education advisory board of the Ministry of Culture and the Arts and from 1971 to 1990 chairman of the Henryk Wieniawski Music Society in Poznan. He went on many tours abroad with his choir and, in addition to concert appearances, recorded numerous records.
