Stefano Sartori (born August 19, 1973 in Thiene ) is a former Italian grass skier . He was a member of the Italian national grass ski team until 2009, was world champion five times, Italian champion 22 times and won the overall World Cup in the 2000 season .
Career
Sartori was accepted into the national grass ski team of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) in 1989 . He achieved his first international success at the Junior World Championship in Lanzo d'Intelvi in 1991 , when he won the bronze medal in the Super-G. In the same year he became Italian champion for the first time. By 2006 he was able to win another 21 national title fights.
At the world championships in Müstair in 1997 , Sartori first achieved medal ranks with second places in slalom and giant slalom. Two years later he was able to celebrate his first of a total of five world championship titles at the 1999 World Cup in Gaal . Before the Austrian Christian Balek and the German Christian Ring , he won the gold medal in the Super-G. Two more medals were added with second place in the combination and third place in the slalom. At the 2001 World Cup in Forni di Sopra , Italy , Sartori successfully defended his Super G title and this time he was also able to celebrate a victory in the giant slalom. In the slalom and in the combination he was second behind the Czech Jan Němec . Sartori won his fourth world title in slalom at the 2003 World Championships in Castione della Presolana and at the 2005 World Championships in Dizin , Iran , he was able to look forward to gold in giant slalom and silver in slalom. At the next two world championships Sartori won another silver medal: in 2007 he finished second behind Fausto Cerentin in the Super-G and in 2009 behind Jan Němec second in the giant slalom.
In the World Cup , Sartori was one of the most successful runners in the early 2000s. In the 2000 season , in which there was an official World Cup ranking for the first time, he won it. In 2001 , 2002 and 2005 he reached second place overall. After the 2009 season, the Italian retired at the age of 37.
