Fausto Cerentin (born December 1, 1973 in Belluno ) is an Italian grass skier . He was two-time world champion , three-time European champion and six-time Italian champion, won several World Cup races and is a member of the grass ski national team of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI).

Career

At the beginning of the 1990s, Cerentin achieved top positions at junior world championships for the first time . In 1991 he was second in slalom and third in giant slalom in Lanzo d'Intelvi and in 1992 he won the gold medal in slalom in Kálnica .

In the general class, Cerentin caused a sensation for the first time at the 1996 European Championships in Forni di Sopra , when he won gold three times in giant slalom, super-G and combined. The next year he was second in combination at the 1997 World Championships in Müstair , third in giant slalom and super-G, and fourth in slalom. At the 1999 World Championships in Gaal , he won bronze in the giant slalom. At the next three world championships, the Italian narrowly missed the medal ranks several times. In 2001 his best result was fifth place in slalom, in 2003 he drove in slalom and in the combination to fourth place, sixth place in giant slalom and ninth place in Super-G. In 2005 he was fourth in the combination, fifth in slalom, sixth in giant slalom and eighth in super-G. At the 2007 World Cup in Olešnice v Orlických horách , Czech Republic , he was able to improve significantly again. With two gold medals in giant slalom and super-G he won his first world championship title and with another two silver medals in slalom and super-combined he became the most successful athlete in these competitions. After not taking part in the 2009 World Championships, Cerentin won the bronze medal in the giant slalom at the 2011 World Championships in Goldingen . He was also fourth in the Super-G but only 18th in the slalom. In the super combined he was disqualified because of a peat error in the slalom run after he was third in the super G run.

In the World Cup , Cerentin achieved third place overall in the 2002 , 2006 and 2007 seasons with numerous podium places. He celebrated his last World Cup victory so far in the super combined from Wilhelmsburg at the beginning of the 2009 season , which he ended a week later. After almost a year out of racing, he achieved two podium positions and ninth place in the overall World Cup in the 2010 season. He also achieved two podium places and tenth place overall in the 2011 season , in 2012 he was again 13th in the overall World Cup with two podium places. At the Italian Championships, Cerentin has won six titles so far. In 2002 he won the slalom and the Super-G, in 2004 the giant slalom, in 2006 the slalom and the combined and in 2010 the Super-G again.
