Stefano Scerra

Stefano Scerra (born December 24, 1775 in Civitella d'Agliano , † January 19, 1859 in Rome ) was an Italian curia bishop .

Life

Stefano Scerra received on 22 December 1798, the sacrament of Holy Orders . On September 23, 1805, he received his doctorate iuris utriusque . He was then professor of theology at the seminary of Bagnoregio , vicar general of the Spoleto diocese , and later vicar general in the Osimo diocese . On May 8, 1823, he became secretary of the Congregation for Ecclesiastical Immunity .

Pope Leo XII. appointed Stefano Scerra on September 17, 1827 titular bishop of Oropus . He received his episcopal ordination on October 7th of the same year in Rome by Cardinal Francesco Bertazzoli , secretary of the Congregation for Studies ; Co- consecrators were Archbishop Giovanni Soglia Ceroni and Archbishop Francesco Canali , former Bishop of Spoleto.

Stefano Scerra was the house prelate of His Holiness , secretary and member of various dicasteries of the Curia and was finally relieved of all duties on April 10, 1851 because of his advanced age, but was allowed to hold the title of secretary emeritus . On the same day he was received by Pope Pius IX. elevated to titular archbishop of Ancyra .
