Stefano Zappalà

Stefano Zappalà (born February 6, 1941 in Aci Bonaccorsi in the province of Catania , † April 15, 2018 in Latina ) was an Italian politician and member of the European Parliament for Forza Italia . Zappalà was elected to the European Parliament for Central Italy in 1999 and 2004 . There he belonged to the European People's Party .

Career

Zappalà graduated from high school in 1959. 1960 to 1962 he attended the military academy in Modena . He then attended the Artillery School in Turin until 1964 , where he received a university degree in strategic studies. 1971 to 1973 he attended the technical college in Rome . There he received a degree in mathematics (1973) and a degree in civil engineering (1976). Until 1979, Zappalà was an officer in the Italian army . He then worked as a freelance engineer and entrepreneur until he began his political career in 1994. From 1994 to 2005 he was Forza Italia's Deputy Coordinator for Latium . 1995-2000 member of the Lazio Regional Council and 1997-2002 member of the Latina City Council . In 1999 Zappalà was elected to the European Parliament for the first time . From 2002 to 2005 he was mayor of Pomezia in the province of Rome . In 2004 he was able to return to the European Parliament. In 2010 he became head of culture and tourism in the Lazio region in the government of Renata Polverini .
