Steffen Winkler (* 1952 in Chemnitz ) is a German ethnographer and museologist .

Life

After attending school, Steffen Winkler studied museology and German history at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig, as well as folklore at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He completed his studies as a graduate ethnographer. In 1978 he became deputy director of the museum and the art collection Schloss Hinterglauchau in the Saxon district town of Glauchau . From 1979 he headed the “Young Historians” working group in the museum, in which Glauchau students uncovered, among other things, the dungeon of Hinterglauchau Castle during excavations. In 1993 he was appointed director of the museum and art collection. Since, from the point of view of the city of Glauchau, he would not have worked with the necessary speed to clarify the von Schönburg family's restitution claims on around 800 museum inventories, he was dismissed by them in March 2013 without notice . On the other hand, he successfully defended himself with a dismissal protection suit before the labor court in Zwickau and the regional labor court of Saxony , but did not return to the service. In 2018 Steffen Winkler retired.

Steffen Winkler was significantly involved in the publication of the series Museum and Art Collection Schloß Hinterglauchau , whose publication was discontinued with the last issue in 2008. He was also a member of the awarding body of the culture award of the city of Glauchau.

He was married to the qualified restorer Anke Winkler (1956–2014).
