Wolf-Dieter Röber

Wolf-Dieter Röber (born January 5, 1943 in Zwickau ) is a German art historian and museologist .

Life

After completing school, Röber first learned the profession of electrical installer. Due to the contact with the director of the Zwickau council school library , Marianne Vater , and the Zwickau city archivist Karl Steinmüller , he completed a degree from 1962 to 1965 at the technical college for local museums in Weißenfels and Siebeneichen . In his thesis he dedicated himself to the publishing [...] of the Zwickau cloth makers in the first half of the 16th century . In general, the time of the Reformation , the Renaissance and Humanism became the focus of his research and publication activities.

From 1965 to 1978 he worked - interrupted by his service in the National People's Army - as a research assistant at the Schlossberg Museum in Karl-Marx-Stadt . During this time, he studied art history at the University of Halle . One of his teachers here was Hans-Joachim Mrusek , to whom he dedicated a laudation in one of his articles in 1981 . In his diploma thesis, submitted in 1976, he dealt with the subject of the works of Lucas Cranach the Elder , Lucas Cranach the Younger and their workshop in the western Ore Mountains . 1979 he moved to the Museum Schloss Hinterglauchau , where he intensively to the study of the architectural history of the locks back and Forderglauchau has earned. He also devoted himself to the castles and palaces in the Zwickauer Mulde valley . At times he was head of the department for art and restoration at the Museum Schloss Hinterglauchau. In 1993 he was appointed deputy museum director and in 2004 celebrated his 25th anniversary with the museum.

In addition, from 1979 to 1989 Röber was involved as a district monument curator in the Glauchau district , in which office he primarily devoted himself to the inventory of rural folk architecture. He also took part in the editorial work on the regional history articles from the Karl-Marx-Stadt district and the Vogtland homeland sheets .
