Karl Steinmüller

Karl Steinmüller (born February 13, 1901 in Saupersdorf , † September 18, 1977 in Zwickau ) was a German archivist , local history researcher and genealogist .

Life

Karl Steinmüller was born in Saupersdorf near Zwickau in 1901 as the son of the bricklayer and school house man Emil Steinmüller, who fell in the First World War in 1917 . After attending elementary school in 1905 Charles went to teacher training college after Schneeberg . Karl Steinmüller was active in the primary school for some time before he began studying at the University of Leipzig in 1921 , which he successfully completed with a doctorate in 1925. He then worked for several years as a genealogist in Leipzig at the Central Office for German Personal and Family History .

In 1951, at the age of 50, he was given the management of the Zwickau City Archives . There he dealt with numerous topics of home and local history and published several articles about them. He was a member of the Friends of Nature and Homeland and the Kulturbund of the GDR . He also made particular contributions in the field of family research and research into the history of paper manufacture. His watermark collection was acquired by the German Museum of Books and Writing of the German National Library (formerly the German Library ) in Leipzig .

From 1950 to 1957 he headed the Leipzig Genealogical Society .

After preparatory work by Karl Mueller was Stein Helmut Protze 2008 The oldest Zwickau city book (1375 to 1481) and its language in the series Germanistische work on language and cultural history out.
