Stelian Anghel (born March 7, 1952 in Oraşul Stalin, today Braşov , † November 23, 2009 ) was a Romanian football player and sports official . He played a total of 287 games in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A , and won the Romanian Cup in 1980 .
Career
Stelian Anghel began playing football in his hometown Brașov near Steagul roșu . In 1971 he moved to local rivals Metrom Brașov to initially collect match practice in Divizia C. After a year he returned to Steagul roşu and made his debut in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A on August 20, 1972 . There Anghel reached with his team in the 1973/74 season with third place while qualifying for the UEFA Cup , but he still moved to league rivals Politehnica Timișoara .
With Poli Anghel also managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup in the 1977/78 season. In 1980 he won the Romanian Cup, the greatest success of his career. In the subsequent European Cup Winners' Cup , Poli reached the second round after defeating Celtic Glasgow . Also in the 1981/82 season Anghel took part in the European Cup, as his club was able to qualify as an inferior cup finalist.
After three European Cup appearances, the successful time of Poli had come to an end and Anghel had to go into the second division with his club at the end of the 1982/83 season . After the immediate resurgence, he was no longer used regularly and moved in the fall of 1984 to local rivals UM Timișoara , who played in Divizia C at the time. In 1986 Anghel ended his career after another season in Divizia B with Minerul Bocşa .

Anghel played two games for the Romanian national soccer team - on May 12, 1976 against Bulgaria and on July 2, 1976 against Iran .

After the end of his active career, Anghel was Vice President of Politehnica Timișoara from 1986 to 1997 .
