Life

Sten was the son of Svante Sture and his wife Iliana Gädda. In 1497 he was knighted at the coronation of Johann II . As a teenager he took an active part in his father's fight against King Johann. After the death of his father, he took over his country estate and in 1512 was able to successfully challenge the election of Erik Trolle as imperial administrator. After he himself had been appointed imperial administrator, he had Archbishop Gustav Trolle , who opposed him, dismissed and supported a resolution by the Reichstag to demolish its castle.
