Stenodus is a genus of fish species from the order of the salmon-like (Salmoniformes).

Systematics

The genus Stenodus forms within the family salmon fish together with Coregonus and Prosopium the subfamily Coregoninae .

In contrast to Prosopium , the genus Stenodus hardly differs phylogenetically from the broader genus Coregonus , but phenotypically shows more the predator in the morphology .

Species overview

The genus has two types.

Stenodus leucichthys is extinct in the wild and Stenodus nelma is on the Red List of Endangered Species .

Both species are also regarded as subspecies of a single species Stenodus leucichthys under the names Stenodus leucichthys leucichthys and Stenodus leucichthys nelma .
