The Spezarder Mühle was a mill and a place to live in Oberodenthal in today's municipality of Odenthal in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

etymology

According to the interpretation of the local beautification and cultural association, the name Spezard is derived from a combination of woodpecker and hardt , i.e. woodpecker forest .

Location and description

The Spezarder Mühle was in the Pfengstbachtal . The Backesberger Bach , a tributary of the Pfengstbach, was dammed to a mill pond for the water supply . The mill was driven overshot from this pond via a mill channel . The former grain mill had a water wheel and three grinding stages. It was operated until the 19th century. The houses were demolished around 1955. Today only remains are visible, the mill pond is still there.

The place is regularly recorded on the Prussian new recording from 1892 and on later measuring table sheets as Spezarder Mühle or without a name.
