Strünken was a district of Odenthal that disappeared due to the construction of the Great Dhünntalsperre .

history

In stumps was slag from a smelting furnace found, according to a survey by the radiocarbon method was from the 13th century. The first written mention of the place comes from 1340. At that time, the owner was the St. Gereon Abbey in Cologne. A short time later it became the property of the Cistercian Abbey of Altenberg . It was a single house with stables. When the abbey was abolished in 1803, the farm passed into the hands of the tax authorities . It was in the immediate vicinity of Loosenau and for many decades was exposed to the dangers posed by the powder mills there. At the point where Strünken once was, the dam of the dam stands today .
