history

The first known written mention comes from a church bill of May 29, 1661. There, "the temporal church master Hanß uf der Deunen in Under Othenthal" is listed. Unterodenthal belonged as a sub-parish until the 19th century to the reign of Odenthal  in the  Duchy of Berg . It included the area of the old honors Blecher , Grimßgewalt and Dorfhonschaft . From the  Charter of the Duchy of Berg  in 1789 by  Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking  shows that the rule in the areas  Oberkirspel  (upper  parish ) and  Unterkirspel  (lower parish) was divided. After the Duchy of Berg belonged to the Prussian Rhine Province , Unterkirspel then formed the village or the municipality of Unterodenthal in the mayor's office of Odenthal .
