Kalmünten is a district in the Schildgen district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The Kalmünten settlement was one of the early settlement cores of Schildgen, which arose as feudal estates of the Osenau rulership in the medieval rode epoch. Around 1830 there were 79 inhabitants living in 13 houses.

A tax list from 1586 shows that the village was part of the Grimßgewalt community in the Odenthal parish.

Over the centuries the name has changed several times. The original cadastre lists the settlement with the name Calmünten . Calmunt was mentioned in 1249 . In 1414 the name Calmunde is found . The dialect name was Kalmunkel .

etymology

The meaning of the name Kalmünten is controversial. One possibility could be the descent of the determinant from the sweet flag plant . Most of the basic word münten or munt comes from the Latin mons / montis (= mountain). The terminator can also be traced back to the Old High German chalo (= kahl ) or the Latin callis (= kaule , pit, mine tunnel ). Because around Kalmünten an early reference of iron has been proven - of which testify to the pits Scharrenberg and delay - is Calmunt as Kuhlenberg , that is, as mining-occupied land the most plausible interpretation.
