Broicher field

history

The name Broicher Feld was based on the former name of Broicherfeld , which is recorded in the original register of Unterodenthal near the Hopperscheid settlement . In the present case, the field name can indicate the nature of the ground or ownership.

etymology

The word Broich comes etymologically from the Middle High German bruoch or the Old High German bruoh , the root of which is in the West Germanic broka (= marshland). In field names , Broich is used to denote a swampy area or moorland. This results in a swampy piece of field. However, the ending "er" may also indicate that this parcel was owned by one of the medieval Broich farms, i.e. Rothbroich or Schwarzbroich .
