Erberich was a northern district of Eschweiler , demolished in 1985 because of open-cast brown coal mining. The demolition began in September 1981.

Until 1971 Erberich belonged to the municipality of Lohn in the Jülich district . With this he came to Eschweiler on January 1, 1972.

Since the place name ends in "-ich", it is possibly of Celtic origin. The Latin name is "Arboriacum", the Celtic probably "Arboriako (n)"; see. in Latin "arbor" (= tree). A descent from Erdburg or Erdberg is also possible. The name "Erberich" can be traced back to the 12th century.
