history

The history of the place goes back to Roman times , which is confirmed by finds, especially those of a large villa rustica with a hypocaust system , a ball bowl made of blue-green glass and other glass objects. The villa rustica was excavated in 1982 by the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn and the Eschweiler history association .

In 1800, Hastenrath and Nothberg had around 1,400 residents and belonged to the canton of Eschweiler . In 1904 W. Meyer founded the Hastenrather Kalkwerke . Until then, the area of the Diepenlinchen ore mine, which was closed in 1919, belonged to Hastenrath in the so-called "Hastenrather Zipfel".
