Röthgen [ ˈʁøːtçən ] is a district of Eschweiler south of Eschweiler-Mitte and has grown together with it since the 19th century: the border today is the valley road and valley railway line . Röthgen is divided into Röthgen (Unterröthgen) and Oberröthgen (Oberdorf).

The castle Röthgen , the catholic church St. Marien and the Karlschule are worth seeing. The Kreisaltenheim, the Pastor-Zohren-Haus and the Eschweiler Hauptbahnhof are larger public buildings.

history

Röthgen, together with Bergrath and Röhe, has belonged to the Eschweiler district since the 16th century at the latest and, like this, is an old clearing site . The place name is written on a French map from 1802 "Roethgen" and on a Prussian map from 1846 "Röthchen".

Oberröthgen

Oberröthgen or Oberdorf is the southeastern, higher scenic part of Röthgen in the Burgstrasse / Wilhelmstrasse / Ringofen area. The Jägerspfad settlement is also located here .

Unterröthgen

Unterröthgen is the western, lower scenic part of Röthgen in the Odilienstraße / Röthgener Straße / Eisenbahnstraße area. This is where the district of Altenheim, Eschweiler main train station and Röthgen's shopping street Röthgener Straße are located .

The next junction is Eschweiler-West on the A 4 .

The AVV bus stops Bourscheidtstraße, Karlstraße, Kreisaltenheim, Oberdorf, Odilienstraße and Röthgener Straße are served by lines EW4, 8 and 48.

In the Röthgen is Eschweiler central station on the high speed line Köln-Aachen , further in the immediate vicinity of the intersection Talstrasse / Bourscheidtstraße the Euregiobahn -Haltepunkt Eschweiler-Talbahnhof / Raiffeisenplatz .
