Eschweiler Carnival
Eschweiler in western North Rhine-Westphalia is a Rhenish carnival stronghold . At the head of the foolish hustle and bustle are the prince and his master of ceremonies , or ceremony for short. The traditional call in the Eschweiler area is “ Alaaf! ". The Eschweiler carnival societies wear uniforms. The city is the seat of the regional association “ Karnevals-Komitee der Stadt Eschweiler e. V. “in the Federation of German Carnival (BDK).
Rose Monday procession
Every Rose Monday, 200,000 to 300,000 “ Jecke ”, or five times the population, celebrate Fasteloovend in Eschweiler in the Rhineland. Every year around 5500 to 6500 participants take part, which corresponds to around 10% of the population. Measured by the number of participants in the train, Eschweiler has regularly had at least the fourth largest Rose Monday procession in the foolish republic since the middle of the 20th century. Since 2006 it has even been the third largest after Cologne and Mainz . Due to the cancellation of the Mainz train after a storm warning, the Eschweiler Rose Monday procession was even the second largest in Germany on February 8, 2016.
Carnival fountain
Eschweiler has a carnival fountain . It was inaugurated in 1985 in the Grabenstrasse pedestrian zone and stood there until 2007. Due to the reconstruction of the pedestrian zone by the city of Eschweiler, the fountain was relocated to Johannes-Rau-Platz by the town hall. On the carnival days and on 11.11. it is a popular meeting place for carnival societies.
particularities
Every year Eschweiler celebrates its own carnival holiday “Day of the Eschweiler Carnival” on November 11th next Sunday. The city has a "Prinzenallee" with trees planted by the ex-princes. Since 2003 there has been a children's carnival procession in Eschweiler-Ost on Weiberfastnacht .
history

1850, Eschweiler has 8226 inhabitants, the "Eschweiler Fratzenschneider-Verein" carries out a move and a "big masked ball". The approval is given by the “Royal Government, Department of the Interior” in Aachen . The mayor of Eschweiler, Franz Quadflieg, forbade on January 22nd under "citing §§ 10, 11 and 17 of the Royal Decree of June 29th, 1849" and a. “All meetings and elevators in public places” and passes this notice on to the “members of the Carnevals Comités”.
In 1851 the “Festordnende Comitee” of the “Eschweiler Carnevals-Verein” designed the Rose Monday procession. It is not known whether the "Eschweiler Fratzenschneider Association" was involved; it is mentioned again in 1855. In the years after 1850, beginning with the “Festordnenden Comitee”, it is always a “Committee” that organizes the Rose Monday procession in Eschweiler. This committee includes not only the executive committees of the respective associations but also respected citizens of the city. The mayor of the city of Eschweiler acts either as an honorary member or as a patron of the committee deliberations.
In 1879 the Ulk was founded as the first Eschweiler carnival society. In 1884 the first carnival procession took place in the Bergrath district.
In 1930, a so-called “Rose Monday Parade Committee” was formed for the first time from the five Eschweiler Carnival Societies that existed at the time and in 1933 organized the first Rose Monday Parade after the First World War . In 1938 the city of Eschweiler became a "Carnival Community" and the "Rose Monday Parade Committee" became a member of the newly founded " Bund Deutscher Karneval ".
In 1947 there were only smaller removals carried out by the individual companies within their locations or Eschweiler districts, and in 1949 the former “Rose Monday Parade Committee” came into action again for the first time in 1950 and organized the first joint Eschweiler parade. In 1952 the “Rose Monday Parade Committee” was renamed “Carnival Committee of the City of Eschweiler”. Since then, all Eschweiler carnival societies have been members of the committee as voting members. In accordance with the statutes, it represents the entire Eschweiler Carnival in and out of court. Finally, in 1953, when the Bund Deutscher Karneval was re-established, the “Carnival Committee of the City of Eschweiler” was accepted as an independent regional association with voting rights. It is entered in the register of associations at the Eschweiler District Court in 1954 .
The first Eschweiler carnival society with a mixed Elferrat was KG Grüne Funken Eschweiler 1983 e. V.
