Scherpenseel forms a parish together with Bohl , Hastenrath and Volkenrath . The small, rural village consists of only a few streets: Im Tempel , Kapellenweg , Keerbenden , Langenerf , Scherpenseeler Straße and Schwarzer Weg . The Omerbach flows east of Scherpenseel .

history

Remains of Celtic settlements have been found around Scherpenseel, one of the oldest places in the Eschweiler urban area .

The street names tell large parts of the Scherpenseeler story:

  • The Kapellenweg , first “Mühlengasse” after the Gressenicher Mühle, points to the Hubertus Chapel, built in 1894 in Scherpenseel. The Holy Hubertus is worshiped here for about 300 years and is the patron saint founded in 1866 St. Hubertus Schutterij Scherpenseel.
  • The Keerbenden , which means something like “pasture on the bend”, is the meadow on the border with the Düren district .
  • Langenerf is an elongated hereditary land.
  • In Black trail the color of infected here transported mining rock from the Nothberger coal mines (see Eschweiler mining ).

In 1932 Scherpenseel came to Eschweiler together with Nothberg , Bohl, Hastenrath and Volkenrath.
