The Omerbach is a 11.1 km long orographically right tributary of the Inde in the city region of Aachen , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ). In its middle course it forms the natural border to the Düren district . Its name is of Celtic origin.
course
The Omerbach rises near the Gottfriedskreuz between Stolberg- Vicht and the Wehebachtalsperre in the Hürtgenwald state forest and then runs in a northerly direction. It flows through Gressenich , feeds several ponds in the local part of Buschhausen and then changes its course towards the northeast. There it forms the border between the urban region of Aachen and the district of Düren, flows past the Gressenicher Mühle near Scherpenseel , the Korkus , Volkenrath and Bergrath and through Nothberg . In the area of the Bendenmühle between Nothberg and Eschweiler-Ost , it flows into the Inde.
Its regulation began in 1933 in the Nothberg area.
Shortly after its source, it takes in the horse deep, near Scherpenseel the Kaltenbornbach and between Bergrath and Nothberg the Bergrather flow and the Riffersbach.
In Gressenich a street is called "Am Omerbach", and in 1927 the street "In der Aue" in Nothberg was renamed "Am Omerbach".

Curiosities
After the Omerbach flows near the Gressenicher Mühle in the Eschweiler urban area, it runs parallel to the Otterbach , one to two kilometers further east, which runs through the eastern Nothberg and also flows into the Inde. Due to the very similar spelling, Omerbach and Otterbach were often confused in historical records.
The Omerbach in the legend
In a legend about the city of Gression , the Omerbach is said to have been the scene of a battle against the Turks. "At Gression on the Omerstrom, a bloody battle was fought," it says in an old song. The defeated Turkish general then threatened to come back soon, the horses of his riders would then drink the Omerstrom empty so that the army could cross over with dry feet.
