history

On March 1, 1804, the parish was separated from the Nothberg parish and became an independent parish in the canton of Eschweiler . At this time it extends in the south to the Vichtbach and includes Diepenlinchen , Killewittchen , Scherpenseel and Werth , among others . The first pastor is Simon Joseph Johann Frings from Lamersdorf until 1815 .

In 1857, pastor Johann Jakob Funk, who was active from 1849 to 1890, and parishioners founded a church building association. When the building fund totaled 39,000 thalers in 1877, the foundation stone was laid on May 27, 1883. The responsible entrepreneur is Joseph Rosen from Eschweiler. He is also the owner of a brick factory . On October 19, 1884, the brick church was consecrated by the Weisweiler dean Sommer.

In 1825 the diocese of Aachen is dissolved and the parish of Hastenrath becomes part of the Derichsweiler dean's office in the archbishopric of Cologne . In 1913 Werth fell to the parish of Gressenich. On January 18, 1925, the parish came to the Eschweiler deanery. When on October 1, 1932, after the dissolution of the municipality of Hastenrath in the Düren district, the villages of Werth, Weißenberg, Diepenlinchen and Burgholz in the so-called " Hastenrather Zipfel " fell to the municipality of Gressenich in the district of Aachen , the parish area had already been reduced accordingly.

In November 1944, the church was seriously damaged in the infantry and tank battles towards the end of the Second World War . Major renovations take place in 1952 and 1979.

From 1947 to 1949 the "Pfarrblatt St. Wendelinus Hastenrath" was published.

On December 23, 1991, the St. Wendelinus statue was unveiled in the church. On December 31, 1991 the church was added to the list of monuments of the city of Eschweiler.
