history

Hüelte never had its own house of worship. The place always belonged to the parish of Weisweiler and the faithful went to worship in the parish church there. After 1945, the Wilhelmshöhe , located directly next to Hü Hügel, was settled, which resulted in a significant increase in population. As early as 1946, residents founded a chapel building association. Twelve years later, in 1958, the Weisweiler chaplain, Karl Schein, was entrusted with the pastoral care of Huecheln and Wilhelmshöhe, but there was no real church yet, and masses were read in the school's gym.

Starting in 1960, was finally started the church building, on August 17, 1962 Hücheln was raised to Vikarie within the parish Weisweiler and 1964, the survey was conducted for Pfarrvikarie . On March 1, 1971, Hüelte was completely detached from Weisweiler and became an independent parish . On January 1, 2010, Hüelte lost this independence again, the parish was dissolved and Huechel came back to the mother parish in Weisweiler and is now a branch parish.

Building history

After the war, a corrugated iron barrack was initially used as a place of worship, and since the completion of the new school, services have been celebrated in the local gym. In 1958, the Weisweiler parish commissioned the Aachen architect Elmar Lang to plan the building. The foundation stone was finally laid in 1960 and the church was completed by 1962. The solemn consecration took place on September 2, 1962. Between 1988 and 1990 the church was renovated, with wood paneling in the interior.
