The Küchenberg is a district in Unterodenthal in the municipality of Odenthal in the Bergisches Land in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The Küchenberg lies on the fertile southern hill above the center of Odenthal, separated from it by the Dhünn and a forest belonging to the Sayn-Wittgenstein family, and northwest of Voiswinkel . Street names such as Grüner Weg still bear witness to the wealth of the soil's yield.

Surname

The name shows parallels to other names such as Kuckelsberg, Kockenberg or Kuckenberg. "Kock" or "Kuck" is a Franconian language root that can best be translated as "heap, lump". The name therefore aims at the shape of this elevation.

history

Two-winged courtyard, Odenthal, Grüner Weg 27, entered in the list of architectural monuments in Odenthal , number l 2

Küchenberg is mentioned as early as 1301, when a Johann von Küchenberg acted as a seal witness in Bechen . The Küchenberger Hof was owned by the Cologne Carthusians from 1407 to 1803 . Until the end of the 16th century the farm was run by Karthauser lay brothers, then by secular tenants. The court belonged to the Osenau court of the St. Gereon Church in Cologne , which was the landlord. The adjacent forest was therefore also called Gereonsgewalt. Küchenberg was part of the Grimßgewalt family , whose name also comes from St. Gereon.

The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Miselohe , proves that the residential area was categorized as Freyhof in 1715 and named Kuchenberg . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Kuchenberg . It emerges from it that at that time Küchenberg was part of Unterodenthal in the Odenthal lordship .

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813, the rule was dissolved. Küchenberg was politically assigned to Mairie Odenthal in the canton of Bensberg . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Odenthal in the Mülheim am Rhein district .

The place is on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824, on the Prussian first survey from 1840 and from the Prussian new recording from 1892 on it is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Küchenberg . Küchenberg belonged to the Catholic parish of Ondethal.
