Location of Oberhortenbach in Odenthal

Oberhortenbach is a residential area in Unterodenthal in the municipality of Odenthal in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

etymology

Hortenbach is derived from Hertisbach, Herthasbach , after Hertha, the Germanic deity.

Location and description

The Oberhortenbach estate goes back to the Hortenbach knight's seat. It is located on a dead end road north of the connecting road between Kümps and Hunger near the Hortenbacher Siefens . It serves as a forester's house for the Sayn-Wittgenstein Forest Administration.

history

In 1160 a knight Adolph is mentioned at the knight seat Hortenbach.

A tax list from 1586 shows that the village was part of the Breidbach community in the Odenthal parish.

Johann Adolf Wolff Metternich zur Gracht bought the Ober- and Unterhortenbach possessions and the associated fishing rights from Baron Wilhelm von Harff in 1623 . Since then, these goods have been associated with Strauweiler . The Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies , Blatt Amt Miselohe , proves that the living space was categorized as a courtyard in 1715 and was named o. Hortenbach . Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking names the court on his charter of the Duchy of Berg in 1789 as Hortenbach . It shows that Oberhortenbach was part of Unterodenthal in the Odenthal rulership at that time .

Under the French administration between 1806 and 1813, the rule was dissolved and Oberhortenbach was politically assigned to the Mairie Odenthal in the canton of Bensberg . In 1816 the Prussians converted the Mairie to the mayor's office in Odenthal in the Mülheim am Rhein district .

The place is recorded on the Prussian first recording from 1840 as Ober Hortenbach . From the Prussian new admission of 1892 it is regularly recorded on measuring table sheets as Ober Hortenbach or Oberhortenbach .
