The name Tempelhof indicates a former property of the Johanniter . The place is recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 as Tempelhof . On the Prussian first photo from 1840, the residential area is recorded without buildings. At this point, buildings can only be seen again from the 1960s. In the southern area of ​​the path, from the Prussian new admission from 1892 onwards, buildings without a name are regularly recorded on measuring table sheets . In the 19th century, the area was part of the municipality of Bechen in the mayor's office in Kürten .

In 1975 the village became part of the Odenthal municipality due to the Cologne Act .
