Stephan Balzer (born March 5, 1966 in Berlin ) is a Berlin entrepreneur , speaker and management consultant for innovation , cultural change and digital transformation .

Live and act

Balzer studied information science and business administration with a focus on marketing at the Free University of Berlin and continued his studies at the TU Berlin in the field of media consulting with a specialization in marketing.

He started his career at Pixel Park in 1991 . In 1996 he founded the Lava agency in Hamburg, which was sold to the American company iXL in 1999 . In 1999, Balzer founded the communications agency red onion GmbH, which specializes in brand and communication consulting, event design and production as well as speaker coaching in the TED style.

His affinity for technology and innovation topics brought Balzer to TEDx . In 2009 he started the German TEDx conferences with red onion as the first license partner and was appointed TEDx ambassador for Europe by the American organization TED in 2010 . Balzer organized the TEDx conferences in Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt every year until 2019 as well as numerous smaller TEDx formats and TEDx salons.

In 2015 he entered into a partnership with Singularity University in Silicon Valley and hosted the Singularity University Germany Summit from 2016 to 2018. In addition, until 2018 he was Singularity University's ambassador for Germany and head of the first SU chapter in Berlin.

In 2018, together with Lara Stein and two other partners, he launched Boma Global, an international corporate learning network that is part of a new management curriculum for leadership , digital transformation and cultural change . Balzer heads the German branch Boma Germany.

According to absatzwirtschaft, Stephan Balzer is one of the pioneers in the German new media scene. Balzer lectures at national and international conferences and writes on the topics of cultural change, leadership and the effects of technology and innovation on society and companies. He is considered an influential voice in the pan-European innovation community.

Mandates and engagement

Stephan Balzer is an art collector and active in numerous cultural projects. Among other things, he is active as spokesman for the AG Freundeskreis at the Stiftung Zukunft Berlin . From 2000 to 2010 he was chairman of the Friends of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz . From 2001 to 2006 he was the founding director of media.net Berlin-Brandenburg eV and co-initiated and realized the international media festival “BerlinBeta”, which from 1998 to 2001 brought together thousands of creative media professionals from all over Germany.

In 2007, he founded the Contemporary Arts Alliance Berlin together with Loretta Würtenberger and Dieter Rosenkranz. Balzer is also a co-founder of the New Responsibility Foundation in Berlin.

In 2016 he founded the non-profit organization Global Perspectives Initiative with Ingrid Hamm . As managing partner, he supports the goals for sustainable development of the United Nations as well as the issues of development cooperation and global health. Migration and Africa are other key issues.

In 2010, he co-produced the documentary project Interview Project Germany by David Lynch .

Stephan Balzer lives and works in Berlin . He is married and has one daughter.
