The residential and commercial building at Hauptstraße 8 is a monument that is located in the small town of Elsterwerda in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg .

Description and history

The current building on the site is dated around 1900. However, it was first mentioned in a document as early as 1708. From 1819 the pharmacy, which was privileged by the royal Prussians and existed as a city pharmacy until 1993, has since been located as a city ​​pharmacy in a then newly constructed building complex on Poststrasse. Most recently, the business premises were used by a tattoo studio .

It is recorded in the local monument register under registration number 09135375.

The building is now privately owned.

Hugo Kroschel

The pharmacy was renamed "Apotheke Hugo Kroschel" under the management of Günther Kroschel just a few years after Hugo Kroschel (* December 23, 1863; † August 3, 1923) death. His gravestone in the form of a large boulder is now in the city park on Berliner Straße in Elsterwerda.

Stephan Creuzburg

The pharmacist Stephan Creuzburg, who was born in Leipzig in 1941 and had previously studied pharmacy at what was then Karl Marx University, worked here since 1971 . As part of the state graduate control in the GDR , he finally came to Elsterwerda and became the district pharmacist of the Bad Liebenwerda district in the city . In 1982 Creuzburg was awarded the title of Pharmacist . Shortly after reunification , he took over the “Stadt-Apotheke” as part of a privatization.

Creuzburg, who also served as Vice President of the Brandenburg Chamber of Pharmacists and City Councilor for 16 years , is today primarily known in the region as an organizer, supporter and patron of various cultural projects. In 2017 he was awarded the culture prize of the Elbe-Elster district for his services. In 2001 he was also awarded the Hermann Hager Medal by the Brandenburg Chamber of Pharmacists , which honors people "who have made a special contribution to the pharmacy of the state of Brandenburg."
