Stephan Grüger (born January 28, 1966 in Düsseldorf ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Stephan Grüger was born the son of a teacher and a social worker and grew up in Düsseldorf . He went there on the Goethe-Gymnasium and later gained at the Heinrich-Heine University in Dusseldorf the MA of philosophy , political science and biology . He also studied at the Universities of Oldenburg , Hanover , the University of California, Davis and the University of Nottingham .

After completing his studies, Grüger worked as a research assistant for a member of the state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia. From 2001 he worked as a key account manager in the energy industry . Since January 1, 2014, Grüger has been on leave of absence from his employer to exercise his state parliament mandate. He served as the works council chairman and deputy chairman of the administrative board until the new works council was elected in May 2014.

Grüger began his political activity as head boy at the Goethe-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf. From 1987 to 1994 he was a member of the student parliament and a member of the General Student Committee ( AStA ) as well as a member of the academic senate of Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . In 1990/91 and 1994 he was AStA chairman of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf.

Stephan Grüger was a member of the Jusos federal board from 1992 to 1999 . In 1995 he ran at the Juso federal congress in Gera against the then Juso federal chairman Thomas Westphal and was defeated by one vote. Due to irregularities in the election of Westphal, the presidential election had to be repeated at a special federal congress (in Bad Godesberg near Bonn). After Westphal's withdrawal, there was a runoff between Grüger and Andrea Nahles , which the latter just won. Grüger was elected deputy chairman.

As Deputy Federal Juso Chairman from 1995 to 1999, he was responsible for the Jusos' solar campaign initiated by him to promote the energy transition.

Later Grüger was active as a member of the SPD sub-district executive in Düsseldorf (1999 to 2000), as the SPD local club chairman in Driedorf (2001-2009) and as a member of the SPD sub-district executive in Lahn-Dill. Since 2009 he has been deputy chairman of the SPD subdistrict Lahn-Dill. He is a member of the district council of the Lahn-Dill district and a member of the regional assembly of Central Hesse .

In the state elections in Hesse in 2013 , he ran in the Lahn-Dill I constituency . Here he lost to Clemens Reif . However, he succeeded in entering the Hessian state parliament via a list of the party.

His political focus is on economic and industrial policy , the most important innovation task of which he sees as the energy transition.
