Stephan Keller

Stephan Keller (born September 18, 1970 in Aachen ) is a German lawyer , administrative officer and local politician ( CDU ). Since January 2, 2016, he has been city director in Cologne and thus full-time deputy to Mayor Henriette Reker . He is also the department head for general administration, order and law. Prior to that, he was since January 2, 2011 the deputy for law, order and traffic at the state capital Düsseldorf . In the local elections on September 13, 2020 , he will run as candidate for mayor of the Düsseldorf CDU against incumbent Thomas Geisel .

Keller is married, has three children and lives in Düsseldorf.

Career

After graduating from high school in 1990 at the City High School Herzogenrath , he studied law in Bayreuth and Birmingham. He completed his studies with the 1st state examination in law at the University of Bayreuth , the Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the University of Birmingham (1996) and the 2nd state examination at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court (1999). In 2010 he was awarded the Dr. iur. PhD.

From 1999 to 2000 he worked as a consultant for fundamental questions of the municipal constitution, administrative structural reform and immigration law at the German Association of Cities in Cologne. From 2000 to 2005 he was in charge of the general manager's office. In 2006 he then moved to Düsseldorf as an alderman for urban development, the environment and local government at the North Rhine-Westphalia City and Municipal Association . From 2011 to 2015 he was the deputy for law, order and traffic at the state capital Düsseldorf. His areas of activity in Düsseldorf included the construction of the Wehrhahn line and the Kö-Bogen project. Since January 2nd, 2016 he has been city director and department head for general administration, order and law in Cologne.
