Projects and awards (selection)

The best-known projects under the direction or cooperation of Schütz include:

  • The New Tempodrom in Berlin: under the project management of Schütz, a permanent construction for the former tent stage was created. For this purpose, a steel structure was built with a 37-meter-high roof that was modeled on the circus tent of the original Tempodrom. The New Tempodrom received the Honor Award of the USITT Architecture Awards in 2004.
  • The Congress Center Neue Weimarhalle in Weimar . The event location based on a design by Meinhard von Gerkan and Stephan Schütz (also project management) connects an independent wooden event hall with the actual building. The room can be adapted to its use by means of mechanically movable walls. In addition, daylight can be used for lighting. The New Weimarhalle was recognized at the 2001 USITT Architecture Awards.
  • The basketball stadium in the southern Chinese city of Dongguan based on a design by Meinhard von Gerkan and Stephan Schütz with Stephan Rewolle. The stadium takes up elements of basketball. The circular circumferential ring is reminiscent of the shape of a basketball hoop. The cable net facade with insulating glazing, stretched between the roof and the floor, simulates the net of the basket. The steel structure of the stadium roof has a diameter of 157 meters. The stadium construction received the German Steel Construction Prize in 2014.
