Stephan Thomae (born June 19, 1968 in Kempten ) is a German politician ( FDP ).

Private

After graduating from high school at the humanistic Carl-von-Linde-Gymnasium Kempten , Thomae did his military service . He then completed a degree in history and law , which he completed in 1993 with a Magister Artium and in 1995 with the first state examination in law. Thomae has been working as a lawyer since he completed his second state examination in 1998 .

Thomae is Catholic , married and has three children.

Political

Thomae joined the FDP in 1999. Since 2004 he has been a member of the state board of the FDP Bavaria .

In 2009, Thomae entered the German Bundestag via the Bavarian state list in the federal election .

He was deputy chairman of the Subcommittee on European Law and regular member of the Committee on Petitions , the Legal Affairs Committee and the Verification Committee , further substitute member of the Committee for Finance and Budget and the Study Commission Internet and Digital Society . In the German Bundestag he was a member of the Europa-Union parliamentary group of the German Bundestag .

Because the FDP failed to pass the five percent hurdle , he was not represented in the 18th Bundestag . He later ran unsuccessfully for the mayoral election in Oberstdorf and works as a lawyer.

In the 2017 federal election , Thomae ran in the Oberallgäu constituency and moved into the 19th Bundestag via 7th place on the FDP state list . He is the deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group as well as a full member of the parliamentary control committee and of the committee according to Article 13 Paragraph 6 of the Basic Law as well as a deputy member of the legal, sports , petitions, judges, internal , electoral review and joint committees .
