Stephanie Richards

Stephanie Richards (* around 1985) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , composition ).

Live and act

Richards studied at the Eastman School of Music , McGill University, and the California Institute of the Arts . During her career she worked a. a. with Henry Threadgill , Butch Morris , John Zorn , Anthony Braxton , Helmut Lachenmann or Mike Kelley . In 2009 she was one of the founders of the Asphalt Orchestra (with Alan Ferber and Shane Endsley , among others ), which has toured internationally several times, has worked with David Byrne , St. Vincent , Goran Bregović , Tatsuya Yoshida , Tyondai Braxton and Yoko Ono and so far has two albums submitted. She continued to play in Steven Lugerner Dectet ( Live at the Bunker , 2012) and Taylor Ho Bynum Plustet ( Enter the Plustet , 2016). With Manfred Werder , Erik Carlson, and D. Edward Davis she presented the album in 2003 (Edition Wandelweiser Records, 2016); The album Trio Music (2018) was created in a trio with Vinny Golia and Bert Turetzky . She also performed with Andrew Drury and Sara Schoenbeck .

Richards wrote commissioned compositions such as Rotations (for twelve musicians and carousel) and is co-chair of the Festival of New Trumpet (FONT). She teaches at the University of California, San Diego .
