Sterling Clay Shepard (* 10. February 1993 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ) is an American American football poker players in the National Football League (NFL). He plays for the New York Giants as a wide receiver .

High school

Shepard attended Heritage Hall School in Oklahoma City , where he started playing football. In his high school career, he caught 133 passes for 1,115 yards and scored 38 touchdowns. At the end of his senior year, he chose the University of Oklahoma .

college

At the University of Oklahoma , Shepard managed 26 touchdowns with 233 passes and 3,482 yards in his four college years . His best year in statistics was his senior year at university in 2015. He caught balls for over 1000 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.

NFL

Shepard was selected 40th in the second round by the New York Giants in the 2016 NFL Draft . The Giants gave him a four-year contract worth over 5.94 million. In his first year, the Giants announced that Shepard would appear as a starting receiver alongside Odell Beckham Jr. In the first game of the season, against the Dallas Cowboys , he made three passes for 43 yards and caught his first touchdown pass from Eli Manning . At the end of his rookie season, Shepard was elected to the PFWA All Rookie Team.

In 2017, Shepard only started in 11 games for the Giants due to injuries. He peaked in his tenth week in the 21:31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers when he caught eleven balls for 142 yards.

Personal

Shepard's father Derrick Shepard and his two uncles also played football for the University of Oklahoma.

When Shepard was six years old, his father died of a heart attack at the age of 35.
