Steven Goertzen (born May 26, 1984 in Stony Plain , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League since 2009 .

Career

Steven Goertzen began his career as a hockey player with the Seattle Thunderbirds , for which he was active in the Western Hockey League from 2001 to 2004 . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the seventh round as a total of 225th player of the Columbus Blue Jackets . Towards the end of the 2003/04 season , Goertzen stood for the first time for Syracuse Crunch , the farm team of the Blue Jackets from the American Hockey League , for which he also played during the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season . In his first season in the National Hockey League Goertzen came in the 2005/06 season on 39 missions for Columbus, but where he could not prevail. After only seven more missions for the Blue Jackets, the Canadian was handed over to the Phoenix Coyotes on February 28, 2008 in exchange for Nate DiCasmirro .
