Steven Rogel

Steven R. Rogel (born October 25, 1942 in Ritzville ) is the former chairman , president and chief executive officer of the forestry group Weyerhaeuser .

Life

Steven Rogel studied at the University of Washington , which he left in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering . In addition, there were further courses at the Tuck School of Business and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology .

In 1964 he married Connie Schuler, with whom he has three children.

In 1965 he started at the St. Regis Paper Company. He stayed there until he moved to St. Anne-Nackawic Pulp and Paper in Nackawic , Canada in 1970. He left the company in 1972 to become Technical Director at Western Kraft - shortly thereafter part of Willamette Industries - in Albany , Oregon become. Steven Rogel became Vice President of Willamette Industries in 1979, Executive Vice President in 1988, and President and Chief Operating Officer three years later . On October 1, 1995, he succeeded William Swindells as President and Chief Executive Officer. Willamette Industries became one of the most lucrative companies in forestry in the following years, generating an annual return on investment of 21 percent.

In 1997 the Weyerhaeuser company approached Steven Rogal with the offer to become President and CEO of the company in order to transform it. Rogel accepted the offer, much to the displeasure of Swindells, who saw it as "treason". Rogel immediately began restructuring Weyerhaeuser. He held the post until 2008.
