Steven Stapleton

The British musician, painter and illustrator Steven Peter Stapleton (* 3. February 1957 in Finchley , UK ) is the founder of the avant-garde - band Nurse With Wound and Labels United Dairies .

Stapleton was also responsible for the artistic design of the publications of Nurse With Wound, as well as those of many other artists and projects , often under the stage name Babs Santini .

Life

As a fan of Krautrock groups like Amon Düül , Stapleton went to Germany and worked there as a roadie for Guru Guru and Kraan . On his return to London , he received an offer to rent a recording studio for a cheap price, and in 1978 founded the Nurse With Wound project and the United Dairies label with friends John Fothergill and Heeman Pathak .

Over the years Nurse With Wound developed into a solo project by Stapleton, who produced other albums with changing musicians ( Colin Potter , Andrew Liles and others) or alone. This also resulted in collaborations with other bands such as Coil , Cyclobe , Foetus , Deer Not Aufs Sofa , Legendary Pink Dots , Lemon Kittens , Organum , Sol Invictus , Stereolab , Volcano The Bear and Whitehouse . Especially with David Tibet from Current 93 Stapleton worked on many albums, conversely Stapleton was involved in many Current 93 works.

In addition to his work as a musician, Stapleton is also represented at international exhibitions with his paintings, graphics and collages. He lives in County Clare , Republic of Ireland with his wife Diana Rogerson .
