Nurse with Wound is an avant-garde band founded in 1978 by British musician Steven Stapleton .
history
Steven Stapleton, who had previously worked as a roadie for various Krautrock bands, including Guru Guru and Kraan , received an offer from Nicky Rogers to use a recording studio at a reasonable price. Together with John Fothergill and Heeman Pathak , Stapleton founded Nurse with Wound and made the first recordings that were made very spontaneously. Nurse with Wound produced the first album Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella , which was published in an edition of 500.
Over the years Nurse with Wound became a solo project by Stapleton, who produced other albums with changing musicians ( Colin Potter , Andrew Liles and others) or alone. This also resulted in collaborations with other bands ( Coil , Cyclobe , Foetus , Deer Not Aufs Sofa , Larsen (Band) , Legendary Pink Dots , Lemon Kittens , Organum , Sol Invictus , Stereolab , Sunn O))) , Volcano The Bear , Whitehouse ) . For a long time he was featured on almost every album of David Tibet's band project Current 93 .
The dark style of earlier works, which was strongly based on Krautrock , Surrealism , Dadaism and Musique concrète , changed over time to a more minimalist style. The music is also influenced by noise , ambient , free jazz and bruitism , paired with Stapleton's humor - on the album Salt Marie Celeste , a one-hour recording of a sinking ship, a bicycle bell can be heard surprisingly in the last few minutes.
The layout of his albums is designed by Stapleton himself, who also works as a performing artist under the pseudonym Babs Santini. Chance Meeting ... was included in The Wire's list of “100 Records That Set the World on Fire (While No One Was Listening)” in 1998 by the music magazine of the same name.
Stapleton lives in County Clare , Ireland with his wife and occasional co-musician Diana Rogerson .
