Stevens orchid ( orchis stevenii ) is a rare and highly threatened plants art from the genus of orchids ( orchis ) in the family of the Orchid Family (Orchidaceae).

description

This perennial , herbaceous plant reaches heights of between 20 and 50 cm. At the base of the stem there are two to five lanceolate basal leaves and in the lower half of the stem there are two to three sheathed leaves.

The cylindrical, rich and loose-flowered inflorescence usually appears elongated. The bracts are very short. The bracts incline together like a helmet. The narrow, egg-shaped sepals are pink on the outside and darkly veined on the inside. The linear petals are shorter than the sepals. The deep three-lobed lip appears pink to pale purple with dark tufts of hair. The lateral lobe is linear and the tip of the middle lobe is rounded-rhombic in shape. The cylindrical spur is directed downwards.

The main flowering period extends from mid-May to late June.

Location and distribution

You can find this species on unfertilized fat and wet meadows with fresh to moist, base-rich soils at an altitude of 600 to 1900 m above sea ​​level .

The distribution area extends over the Asian part of Turkey . The main distribution is in the province of Trabzon . Findings from Iran do not belong to this species, but to Orchis adenocheilae .

Systematics

Orchis stevenii was described by Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach in 1849 . Some authors consider the name to be a synonym for the orchid orchid ( Orchis militaris ). Other synonyms are:
