Writing Culture Foundation V. is the name of a non-profit association based in Homburg , which promotes the cultural asset of writing in a variety of ways and maintains numerous contacts with similar institutions at home and abroad. The most important cooperation partner is the German Newspaper Museum in Wadgassen .

The foundation association promotes and disseminates the art of writing , calligraphy and typography by holding courses, workshops and lectures and exhibitions on these topics. Own publications are also published; A worldwide cooperation with artists, collectors, scientists and institutions is established, whereby the many existing relationships of the founder Katharina Pieper and other members can be used. A conversion of the association into an official foundation is planned.

History and Development

The foundation association was founded in 2016 by the type artist Katharina Pieper . It has over 100 members who come from all over Germany and Austria as well as from Switzerland and Belgium. These include well-known personalities such as Klaus Kell , Heinz Schumann , Gudrun Zapf and the Belgian writer and calligrapher Joke van den Brandt.

The seat of the association is in the east wing of Gut Königsbruch . A gallery has also been created there, in which exhibitions on the art and culture of script are held on a regular basis. The Jean Larcher Archive was also located there , in which the legacy of the French type artist Jean Larcher is kept and made available to the public. An extensive specialist library has also been set up, which in addition to many specialist books also contains specialist journals and documentation from all over the world. In the vaulted cellar under the gallery there is a small museum for calligraphy and handwriting, which opened in 2017 and shows both changing exhibitions and a historical overview of the development of our script. The affiliated academy organizes courses, lectures, and visits to exhibitions and museums. The work of the association is regularly reported in circulars .

The association was reported in regional and national media, including a film report on the "Wir im Saarland" series on the SR television station , in the OPUS culture magazine and in the association bodies of calligraphic societies in Belgium , the Netherlands and Switzerland .

From April to the end of June 2019, the association presented Gudrun Zapf-von Hesse (* 1918) and Helmut Matheis (* 1917), the two oldest living type artists in Western culture, in the exhibition “One Century - Two Type Artists” .
